Topic: Caught in the Middle: What is happening to our Midwestern Life?

By: Jim Mackey; Education Director, Wisconsin Technical College System

In the book Caught in the Middle: America’s Heartland in the age of Globalism; ex–Chicago Tribune correspondent Richard Longworth (Global Squeeze) paints a bleak, evocative portrait of the Midwest's losing struggle with foreign competition and capitalist gigantism. It's a landscape of shuttered factories, desperate laid-off workers, family farms gobbled up by agribusiness, once great cities like Detroit and Cleveland now in ruins, small towns devolved into depopulated “rural slums”.  This landscape will affect how we live and where we will work.  Join in the book review and the ensuing discussion to see how our quality profession is affected by this reality and part of the Midwest’s future. It is not necessary to have read the book to participate. Come join us for a great evening.

Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Quality Inn & Suites in the Ballroom South (located below the Tuscany Grill - the entrance is to the left as you enter the parking lot). For directions, check out the link to the left. We hope you will join us in the upcoming year.

NOTE THAT WE HAVE MADE CHANGES TO OUR REGISTRATION PROCESS. SEE OUR RESERVATIONS PAGE FOR DETAILS.
